Now What?!

Boy meets girl.
Boy dates girl.
Girl moves in with boy.
Boy proposes to girl.
Girl accepts boy's proposal.
Boy marries girl.
Now what?!
Folks, this wedding blog has been a good thing. I've had fun with it, hope you did, too.
I enjoyed hearing from all of you over the many months in planning Wendie and Chris's Big Day.
My turn with this blog is over though and I will be turning this blog over to them.
Why would I want to keep a blog with their names on it, anyway?!
I'm sure they'll keep you posted on their wedded bliss.
Perhaps there will be a "Baby Watch" at some point!!!
Please stay tuned!!

APB: Video Footage of the Wedding!!!

Calling all units!!
Calling all units!!
This is an All Points Bulletin. We are searching for anyone who has video footage of the wedding. If you or someone you know has some, please share it with Wendie and Chris!!
Why?
Well, evidently....our 'professional' (and I use that term very loosely) videographer didn't arrive to the big event until after the ceremony.
Yep. You read that correctly: after the ceremony. Now, perhaps he got lost. Glen Ellen Country Club is out there in the boonies, afterall. But, as a 'professional', don't you think you'd double check MapQuest's accuracy for directions?!
Bad News vs. Good News
Bad: The videographer completely missed the entire ceremony. This includes the mothers being seated, the bridesmaids whizzing down the aisle and Wendie and Dad's proud walk. Also, it includes the vows (we have no proof!), Chris's funny cringing faces as he accepted his fate and Wendie's smiling-almost-giggling as she becomes Mrs. Martin.
Good: The videographer managed to get some footage of the photography session where the wedding party was chugging champagne and ordering other drinks two at a time. There may be some footage of the abnormally large mass of dragonflies in the air during the photo session since I specifically asked the videographer to try to capture it on film. I do believe there's some footage of the reception. (Let's hope there's none of yours truly on the dance floor! That would cause blindness!!)
Better Than Good: The videographer is giving them a full refund and all the footage he did manage to get. On top of that, he told them if they could track down anyone with footage who would be willing to make a copy of it, the videographer would splice their footage in with the footage he has. I think that's pretty cool! NICE SAVE, DUDE!!!
Sooooo....if you or anyone you know has any video footage of the blessed event, please contact Wendie and Chris ASAP!! Rather than post their digits on the blog, if you don't know how to reach them....use the blog!!!

The Bed is Made

I'm sitting upstairs in Wendie's old bedroom. The place has been cleaned and redecorated for Wendie's short-lived homecoming that will take place tomorrow night after the rehearsal dinner. Mom went out and got new curtains, new sheets, new bedspread, new everything for the occasion. One more sleep at home before going off to live her happily-ever-after as a married woman.
I'm looking forward to that last night. I don't know what we'll do, but I imagine we'll have a good chat about a lot of nothingness. Sister stuff. Maybe we'll watch Steve Martin' s "Father of the Bride" and go through a box or two of Puffs Extra Strength With Aloe!!
The curtains Mom got for Wendie's room are long, white gauzey material. The kind that you'd see in old romantic movies blowing in the wind coming through the open windows. Very romantic looking. Her wedding dress is still carefully packed in its plastic zippered dress house. Tomorrow Mom will come in here and take it out of the bag and fluff it out. She'll probably even add tissue paper to the inside of it to "keep its shape". It's a mother thing, I guess.
I've already seen Wendie in the dress on two or three occasions, but it won't be the same as seeing her in it on the actual day of her wedding. She'll be a breath-takingly beautiful bride, this I know for sure.
Ask her if she's nervous and she'll tell you she's not. This I don't understand. Aren't all brides nervous right before their wedding day? Wendie says she's more excited than nervous...she's been with Chris for over nine years, afterall. What's to be nervous about? I guess I can see her point.
Well, as far as I can see from my point of view...the bed has been made and it's just about time to sleep in it. I know it'll be a great sleep full of wonderful, happy dreams come true.
Pleasant dreams to all!

Murphy's Law...NO PROBLEM!!

Murphy's Law states that IF something can go wrong, it WILL go wrong. Any professional wedding coordinator will tell you that something will ALWAYS go wrong at a wedding, no matter how well-planned the event may be. These facts may freak me and you out, but the bride and groom have decided to take their Jamaican lessons to heart:
When one of our groomsmen was forced to step down from his ceremony services, I freaked out over the uneven-ness of the wedding party and wondered if someone would step in as a replacement usher. Wendie and Chris said, "No problem!" One lucky groomsman would have two lovely ladies on his arm. (Whatta stud!)
When my dyed-to-match shoes came back looking like a rusty old toilet (a strange orangey-brown hue, watermarks and all) instead of the Apple Red they were supposed to be, I had a small temper tantrum. The bride, standing next to me at the time of the unveiling, only backed away and told me, "No problem!" New shoes were bought and 911-dyed at the source, and the bad shoes were sold full price to the person who dyed them orangey-brown.
The final writing on the wedding programs hasn't even been finished - never mind getting the silly things printed! They have to be at Glen Ellen by Thursday afternoon. The bride doesn't seem to feel the hurry-up-ness of this though and tells me, "No problem!" They'll get done though....somehow.
Looking out the window right now, I see darkness and rain. I have to wonder about what the weather will be like on Saturday. The ceremony itself is scheduled to be outdoors under a tent. If the rains holds up, we'll be forced to move the ceremony inside! I say that sucks!! Wendie and Chris agree that it would suck, but then add: "No problem!" They just want their family and friends around them when they trade their 'I do's'.
Say it with me now: "Awwwwwwww!!!"

IF YOU ARE IN THE WEDDING....

If you are in the wedding, this is already be on your calendar:

THE REHEARSAL DINNER IS ON
AUGUST 19TH AT 5:45pm

Right?! If not, better add it in. In ink!!!
All of us - with our significant others in tow - will meet at Glen Ellen Country Club at 5:45pm for a practice session with our wedding coordinator, Bill Ransom. How long the actual rehearsal lasts all depends on us and how fast we get what Bill tells us to do, where to stand (over there, over here) and when to smile (ALWAYS...you never know when someone might be taking a picture of you, afterall!!).
As stated before (see earlier blog entry on this subject), we'll be dining at Mickey Cassidy's with Chris's parents, Patti Hoey and Billy Martin, as our gracious hosts.
Send me your questions about the rehearsal and/or the rehearsal dinner. Just like your old teachers used to say: "There's no such thing a stupid question."

Request Pictures!!

Don't think the men folk would be interested in these, but I wanted to extend an invitation to viewing pictures from both Wendie's Bridal Shower and her Bachelorette Party. I've already sent the link to those who I thought would be interested and whose email addresses I had.
If interested, drop me a note at terrpisms@yahoo.com and I will provide you a link to www.shutterfly.com where a shared photo album exists for each event.
In case you're not counting....only 18 more days!!

The Bridal Shower Revisited

For those of you who could not make Wendies Bridal Shower, here's a general idea of what you missed:

Sixty guests spread out among nine tables in the Godfather Room of Vinny T's in Natick on Saturday, July 23rd. We were lucky with the weather and got ourselves a bonofide perfect summer day - bright and sunny, not too hot, nice breeze... you know the kind of day I'm talking about!

Guests started to arrive minutes before 12:00pm. The room was buzzing with chatter and laughter. Some sat in small groups at tables while other preferred to stand. It was great to see everyone, but especially those who I don't get to bump into often enough. THANKS FOR COMING!!

The waiters took drink orders while the room filled up. I worked with my fellow Bridesmaid, Gina, to fit the ever-growing number of gifts for Wendie and Chris on the tables provided. We needed the staff to bring in another table because there were so many!!

While the shower was no longer a surprise for Wendie, waiting for her to come through the door was exciting for us all. Through the windows we could see Bridesmaid and cousin Kasey pulling into the parking lot with Wendie in tow. It was just after 12:30 that the two of them arrived. Wendie, wearing a black skirt with white ribbon detailing, a pretty white teeshirt and VERY CUTE black shoes was smiling and laughing and trying to work herself through the room.

Salads were delivered to the tables at 12:45 and Wendie took her seat to have a bite to eat. Once she was finished with her salad, she got up to work the room some more. It takes a lot of time to say hello to 60 chatty ladies, afterall! The main course of the meal - chicken parm with penne and bowtie vegetale - was delivered and Wendie was ushered back to her seat to eat before she went about the big job of opening all those gifts without breaking any bows or ribbons. Every ribbon broken supposedly equals one baby in the future...Wendie broke FIVE!!!
She got so many wonderful gifts that will make her and Chris's house in Bellingham a warm and inviting home. She's very blessed to have such thoughtful and generous friends and family. I'm sure we'll all be invited over for coffee one of these days so she may put to use the FIVE coffee makers she unwrapped!!
Thank you all for coming to the shower and making it something Wendie will remember always with a warm heart, a smile and a laugh.

Do You Know Their Story?

As their wedding day comes closer and closer, I wondered if everyone was familiar with Wendie and Chris's story? Wendie wrote it out in her own words for their web page on www.theknot.com To make it easy for you, I've copy and pasted it for you here:

HOW WE MET: Chris and I met through a group of friends, called, "The Roche Bros crew" (where we all met and worked for many years) I always saw him at parties and thought he was "cute". One of those parties, we started to talk. I thought he was nice, but a little distant. Turns out, he had a girlfriend at that time. About a year went by and yet, another party...a fourth of July bash at a friends house...(on a dead end road that had parties going at two houses on the road) I saw him again! I was at "the other house"...getting a drink in the house and I looked up and there he was!! I was so excited...I ran over and told my sister "who" was at this party...She said, "well, yah he is here...this is his house!!!" I was so blown away. I kept telling my friends that he was the guy I'm going to marry some day. They all laughed and said, "you can't stay with a guy for long enough to marry him!" Later that night, we started to talk again. Then, after exchanging phone numbers, we started talking on the phone for a few months and then, again...he disappeared. A few months later, he called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to come to the Red Sox game with him and a bunch of his friends for his birthday. Ofcourse I said yes. That following Saturday, we went to the Red Sox game and I had the time of my life!!! He kept making me laugh with silly things he said...I hit it off with all his friends, too. I think it must have been the best date I've ever been on because he has been making me laugh ever since.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED: July 17, 2004
HOW IT HAPPENED: After 8 1/2 years together, 5 years of living together...Chris and I were out on our "Friday night date night". We were talking about all the things we need to do for the house, then all of the sudden he blurts out, "I think it's time for you to go find the ring you want, then you can bring me to it"...I was so excited, since all I had been doing for ummm... 6 years is asking when he was going to marry me. The next day I called my sister and told her, and out we went to look for that one special ring. Well, I found it. After trying every ring on...the very last one they brought out WAS THE ONE!!!! As soon as I left the store I called him and told him I had found it! We went that Saturday and picked out the center stone together. He picked the ring up the following week...We had plans to have dinner at my parents that night. During the Red Sox game, he and my daddy were watching together, he asked for my fathers blessing. I knew what was going on...but pretended not to know... When we got home that night, he showed me...He told me to get a good look at the ring, because I was not going to see it until November when we would be in Jamaica. I told him I had waited 8 1/2 years for this...I wanted it on my finger!!! He said, "well, you have waited this long...what's another 4 1/2 months?" Then he closed the box the ring was in and put it in a "secret" spot. The next day, he went outside in his garden, where he grows roses and picked the most beautiful long stemmed red rose and put the ring around the stem...He then came up to me with the rose in hand and said..."Well, I can't marry you this weekend, but next weekend is looking good!" That was how my father had asked my mother to marry him. I thought that was the most romantic way to give it to me, because he remembered the way my parents got engaged.

Are you SURE it fits?

I think I'm directing this one more to the men-folk out there....the ones who will be wearing their own clothes and not a rental tux:
There's a suit that's been hanging in your closet. Perhaps it's been in there since the last wedding you went to...how long ago was that now? It fit you the last time you wore it, sure. But...does it fit you now?
Are you SURE? Better try it on...just to see.
Do the shoulders of the suit have an inch of dust on them from hanging your closet for so long? I bet there's a cleaners nearby that you could take it do. Have it cleaned and nicely pressed...Oooh, won't you look sharp?!?!
And while we're at it, what about that shirt you wore with it? Did you ever manage to get that stain out from the mustard or salad dressing that someone else got on you (wink, wink)?? Are all the buttons still attached? You're not missing any, are you? Any rips or tears that need mending? Better check! Your wife or girlfriend won't be too pleased if she's asked to do any mending five minutes before you leave for the wedding!!
You know what? Maybe it wouldn't be such a terrible idea to get a new shirt or even a new suit, for that matter.
Why not? All of us ladies will probably be sporting new duds, looking all fresh and pretty...why not you, too? There WILL be cameras there, y'know! ;)

The Anticipation of a Busy Mailbox

There's a lot of excitement in the air lately. Our mailbox has gotten quite busy since the invitations went out last weekend. We've dedicated a special basket on our kitchen counter to put all the unopened response cards into as they come in. We're not allowed to peek until Wendie comes to open them up for us. The anticipation of waiting to see who's coming is almost unbearable!! We're SOOO excited to start that process!

ONLY EIGHT WEEKS as of tomorrow until the wedding.
Can you believe it?!

Plenty to look forward to in those few weeks. There's still lots of details to be worked out and final decisions to be made. Dress fittings, shoe shopping, odds and ends. There's the bridal shower, the rehearsal dinner and for the wild and crazy people...the bachelor and bachelorette parties!!! So much fun to look forward to!!!

Wedding Invitations

Last night we put the extra leaf in the dining room table and spread all the bits and pieces of the wedding invitations out. And let me tell you, there are a lot of bits and pieces to these things! It took us a few hours to get all 149 outter envelopes properly labeled for Mr. Postman, then correctly matched with the inner labels (which were checked 2 or 3 times by those with a touch of OCD! haha!). They were then paired with the directions & hotel info, the RSVP card and envelope and then, of course, the doohickey thing-a-ma-jig that all wedding invites have: the tissue paper!
Wendie will have the honor of bringing one of the completed invites down to the post office to have it weighed for proper postage. She'll slap all the stamps on them and throw them in the mail box.
Invitations should be in a mailbox near you in the next few days! Woohoo!!
A special Thank You to our envelope stuffers, our label stickers, our doohickey thing-a-ma-jig coordinators, our.....oh, you know who you are!!! THANKS so much for helping out. It took us a long time, but without you there to assist, we'd still be working on it!!!

Got Advice on Wedded Bliss???

Have you guys heard about this story?! I thought it was cute and thought I'd share it. Also, it made me wonder if any of our already-married friends and family had any advice for Wendie and Chris (ie: whiskey, sherry and 'sorry'!)

Secret to Wedded Bliss — Saying Sorry
British couple holds record for longest marriage at 80 years

Reuters
Updated: 1:23 p.m. ET June 1, 2005

LONDON - A British couple -- the record holders for the world's longest marriage — said on Tuesday their success was down to a glass of whisky, a glass of sherry and the word “sorry.”
Percy and Florence Arrowsmith married on June 1, 1925, and celebrated their 80th anniversary on Wednesday.
The Guinness World Records said on Tuesday the couple held the title for the longest marriage and also for the oldest married couple’s aggregate age.
“I think we’re very blessed,” Florence, 100, told the BBC. “We still love one another, that’s the most important part.”
Asked for their secret, Florence said you must never be afraid to say “sorry.”
“You must never go to sleep bad friends,” she said, while Percy, 105, said his secret to marital bliss was just two words: “yes dear.”
The couple have three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and are planning a party soon.
“I like sherry at lunch time and whisky at night and I’m looking forward very much to my party,” Florence said.

Time is absolutely FLYING, my friends!! The Wedding of the Century will be here in just 13 short weeks. That's just over three months from tomorrow!

How are everyone's preparations going?

  • Got your dress or suit picked out? Need any alterations or a trip to the cleaners?
  • Didn't forget things like socks or nylons, did you?
  • Got your shoes yet?
  • Ladies, do you have the proper under-things to hold things up or down, or to the left or right?
  • Have you made any appointments for hair, nails, make-up....facials, massages, liposuction?!

Time is ticking and it's going to move faster and faster the closer we get to the big day. Please ask ANY questions you might have. If you'd rather not ask them on the blog, you can email me privately at: terrpisms@yahoo.com I'll get the information to you as soon as I can.

Rehearsal Dinner

Hi!

I'm getting lots of questions about the rehearsal dinner. When will it be? Where will it be? Etc. Sorry to say, I don't have any information on that at this time, but we're working to get that put together as fast as we can. We'll let everyone involved know as soon as it's settled.

For those who have never been in a wedding, a rehearsal dinner is really nothing to stress out about. Essentially, we'll all go to Glen Ellen Country Club where the wedding coordinator will show us where we'll stand or where to walk to at certain points of the ceremony and reception. Any questions will be answered about the ceremony and reception at that time.

From there, we would go to dinner somewhere (someone's house, a restaurant, a hall, etc.) to bond over food and drinks and funny stories about the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be. That said, you may want to start jotting down a few notes about Wendie and Chris to share with the group!!

With the group we'll have with us, there's no doubt in my mind that the rehearsal dinner will be lots of fun with plenty of laughs. I can't wait for it, myself!!

If you happen to have ANY information on the rehearsal dinner, please post a comment on the blog!!

Thanks!

DRESS FITTINGS

When asked when I should make an appointment to get fitted for my bridesmaid dress, the seamstress I will be using told me to make the appointment for after 4th of July if I expected to lose or gain weight.

If, however, you were pretty sure your weight would be the same come August 20th, you can certainly get fitted for your dress NOW.

Before making your appointment, be sure to have in your possession the shoes you'll be wearing the day of the wedding and whatever bras, slips or whatever medieval contraptions you'll be wearing under your dress to keep things in place!!

Prices will certainly vary depending on what needs to be done to the dress. The seamstress I will be using told me that she will not charge more than $50 for alterations on bridesmaid/mother-of dresses. She is located up in the Clinton/Sterling area. If you'd like her name, number and address....just let me know!

Terri

May 14...FOURTEEN WEEKS TO GO!!!

Hi Everyone!!

As of Saturday, May 14th there are only 14 weeks left until the BIG DAY!!! Needless to say, time is flying and I'm sure people have questions about what to do, when to do it by, where to buy things, etc.

If you have a question....ASK!! I'll be more than happy to supply the answer or research the subject to get you the answer if I don't know it.

This BLOG will hopefully be a useful way for us to communicate with each other as the BIG DAY gets closer and closer.

I invite your comments and questions and will supply as much information as I can on this!

THANKS!!

Terri

I'VE GOT A QUESTION!!!!
